It's the Clube.
Clube de Fado lives on Rua de São João da Praça, in the shadow of Lisbon Cathedral, in a building over three hundred years old. It was founded in 1995 by a guitarist — Mário Pacheco, who accompanied Amália Rodrigues — and it shows: this is a house designed by those who sing and those who play. Between the street and the fado there is a velvet curtain. The rest happens on the other side.
The house
A banner on the tiled façade, a staircase down to the stone dining room, velvet curtains and red-clothed tables. Clube de Fado is one of the few places where the street outside — one of Lisbon's oldest — carries on indoors.
Live fado, every night
At 8:30 pm the first voice rises and the room falls silent. The sets alternate with the courses through the night, between stone arches and red velvet curtains — fado sung right by the tables, the way Alfama has always sung it.
One menu, one whole evening
A single menu of Portuguese cuisine — couvert, starter, main course and dessert of your choice, from codfish Clube de Fado style to Abade de Priscos pudding. €78 per person, with the show included. There is no ticket: fado is part of dinner.

Fado starts at 8:30 pm. The kitchen opens at 7:30 pm. The stone room is small for the demand — and Alfama's evenings fill up in advance.
